Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner
As a three-term ANC Commissioner, I worked on numerous significant capital improvement projects, while advocating for neighborhood and constituent rights and needs, and facilitated conversations between “competing” interest groups to arrive at mutually beneficial and equitable solutions.
Highlighted below are some of the projects I contributed to.
Janney Elementary School Modernization and Expansion Project
Led a team of architects from the school community that served alongside me on the School improvement team. Facilitated design charrettes, solved challenges, proposed solutions, and advocated for proposed solutions with the project team and city officials, including the Mayor and the Executive Director of the Office of Public Education Facilities. Significant accomplishments on the project included, the first underground parking in a DC public school project (in order to maintain sufficient outdoor play space), and the re-prioritization/re-organization of massing and programming of spaces in order to efficiently allocate and use the limited outdoor space on site.

During my time as Commissioner I met many interesting and engaged constituents. In addition to the projects highlighted above, I was also instrumental in work that went into the Hearst Outdoor Pool, Deal Middle School Modernization and Expansion, negotiations to ensure shared use of DPR facilities, and public advocacy for gender equitable design and planning across the District of Columbia.
To understand issues holistically and then arrive at a shared vision I regularly met and worked with neighborhood stakeholders, school administrators, University representatives, developers, fellow commissioners, the Mayor, Council members, and city administrators to represent constituent interests, advocate for needs, and achieve city-wide goals.
